Description
Portrait Drawing Learning Targets
The purpose of the Portrait Drawing sessions is to learn the proportions of human faces, the methods of constructing a portrait, and when it’s appropriate to make changes to those proportions and methods. Each session will focus on a specific skill set and desired outcome, ranging from realistic to fantastic. These classes are OPEN TO ALL AGES. You’re never to young or old to start learning about art.
Session Offerings
The cost of each session is $25 for a two-hour class. Register for all four sessions, and get 10% off!
Session 1 – Parts of the Face and Construction
Learn how to use the skull as a foundation on which to construct a human face. Learn how to draw the parts of the face, and color if time permits. Micron pens, colored pencils, and Copic markers.
Monday, June 10th, 2:00-4:00pm
Session 2 – Faces from Photos
Learn how to use the grid method to copy a photograph of a face. Some photos of famous figures will be provided, or you can bring your own. Micron pens, colored pencils, and Copic markers.
Tuesday, June 11th, 2:00-4:00pm
Session 3 – Anime & Manga Proportions
Learn how to draw in the Japanese styles of Anime and Manga! Learn when it’s appropriate to change the proportions of a face, and how to do it effectively. Micron pens, colored pencils, and Copic markers.
Wednesday, June 12th, 2:00-4:00pm
Session 4 – Active Figure Drawing
Learn how to construct the entire figure from head to toe, in an active pose. Be gestural and imaginative in deciding what kind of character you create! Micron pens, colored pencils, and Copic markers.
Thursday, June 13th, 2:00-4:00pm
Showcase from Previous Art Camps
Supplies
Newquii Studios will provide all of the necessary supplies, to include pencils, erasers, papers, Micron pens, colored pencils, Copic markers, etc. As references, students in the Portrait Drawing courses will use mirrors, photographs, fellow classmates, and imagination!
Class Size
A maximum of 20 students will be allowed per session. If that threshold is met, we will consider offering the same classes again later in the summer.

Art Instructor
The Landscape Drawing sessions will be taught by local elementary school art teacher: Noel Newquist, known as Mr. New by students across Madison. As a National Board Certified art teacher for Madison City’s elementary schools, Mr. New has 11 years of experience working with every level of art student, from beginners to national award-winners.
