Landscape Drawing Learning Targets

The purpose of the Landscape Drawing Class is to understand how to create the illusion of three-dimensional space on a flat paper. Each session will focus on a different style of scenery and lighting. Register today to gain a more complete understanding of how to draw with depth. These classes are OPEN TO ALL AGES. You’re never too young or old to start learning about art.


The $110 registration fee includes all supplies and all four days of class. June 15-18, 2-4pm, at West Madison Elementary.

Session Offerings

Tuesday, June 15th, 2pm – Perspective Basics
Learn the basic skills needed to create the illusion of a 3D space on a flat page. Focus on overlapping, size changes, and one point perspective.

Wednesday, June 16th, 2pm – Deserts and Shadows
Draw a desert scene, and understand how light and shadows impact the 3D illusion.

Thursday, June 17th, 2pm – Colorful Beaches and Rivers
Learn how colors blend. Draw a sunrise at the beach, and a moonlit river/forest scene.

Friday, June 18th, 2pm – Underwater Paradise and More
Draw an underwater coral landscape, and have fun exploring other 3D ideas.

Showcase from Previous Art Camps


Mister New will provide all of the necessary supplies, to include pencils, erasers, papers, markers, oil pastels, etc. As references, students in the Landscape Drawing courses will use famous artworks, photos of real places, the great outdoors, and imagination.

Class Size

A maximum of 20 students will be allowed per session. If that threshold is met, we will consider offering the same classes again later in the summer.

Art Instructor

The Landscape Drawing Class will be taught by local elementary school art teacher: Noel Newquist, known as Mr. New by students across Madison. As a National Board Certified art teacher for Madison City’s elementary schools, Mr. New has 13 years of experience working with every level of art student, from beginners to national award-winners.
