Fun with Faces Learning Targets
The purpose of the Fun with Faces Class is to learn lots of different ways to draw a human face, from silly cartoons to realistic portraits. Each session will focus on a specific skill set and desired outcome, ranging from lifelike to fantastic. These classes are OPEN TO ALL AGES. You’re never too young or old to start learning about art.
The $110 registration fee includes all supplies and all four days of class. June 8-11, 10am-12pm, at West Madison Elementary.
Tuesday, June 8th, 10am – Cartoony Faces
Learn how to use silly shapes to create cartoony drawings with lots of different facial expressions.
Wednesday, June 9th, 10am – Realistic Faces
Learn how to use the skull as a foundation on which to construct a human face. Learn how to draw the parts of the face, and color if time permits.
Thursday, June 10th, 10am – Faces from Photos
Learn how to use the grid method to copy a photograph of a face. Some photos of famous figures will be provided, or you can bring your own photo.
Friday, June 11th, 10am – Active Figure Drawing
Learn how to construct the entire figure from head to toe, in an active pose. Be gestural and imaginative in deciding what kind of character you create!
Showcase from Previous Art Camps
Mister New will provide all of the necessary supplies, to include pencils, erasers, papers, Micron pens, colored pencils, Copic markers, etc. As references, students in the Portrait Drawing courses will use mirrors, photographs, fellow classmates, and imagination!
A maximum of 20 students will be allowed. If that threshold is met, we will consider offering the same classes again later in the summer.

The Fun with Faces Class will be taught by local elementary school art teacher: Noel Newquist, known as Mr. New by students across Madison. As a National Board Certified art teacher for Madison City’s elementary schools, Mr. New has 13 years of experience working with every level of art student, from beginners to national award-winners.
