Five day course, 3 hours per day. Total 15 hours.
Monday – Friday, June 19-23
1:00pm – 4:00pm
Newquii Studios will provide all of the necessary supplies, to include acrylic paints, brushes, canvases, palettes, water cups, smocks, etc. If you wish, you may also choose to bring your own supplies in addition to those provided.
Acrylic paints are NOT washable. Although smocks are provided, we strongly recommend that students in this course wear clothing that is okay to get paint on.
In the Ultimate Color Theory course, we’re going to take an in-depth look at color theory. We’ll learn how the human eye sees color, and we’ll study how light and pigment interact. Furthermore, we will discover how light and shadow influence the colors that we see. Working from photos and from real life observation, students in this course will learn how colors really look, instead of how we think they should look. From spotting cool hues in shadows to understanding how we express feelings with color, learning to see is the first step in learning to paint.
Come learn how to mix acrylic paints, how your eyes see colors in the real world (uh-oh, there goes Mr. New talking about science again!), and how to create and use a color wheel. In the process, students will boost their vocabulary with words like: hue, saturation, value, tint, shade, color scheme, color theory, highlight, shadow, cast shadow, and so much more!
If any of this sounds too complicated, trust that Mr. New will be with you every step of the way. And trust that painting is a skill that anyone can learn. By the time you complete this class, you’ll be proficient in understanding and using colors, and you’ll be fully prepared for the following courses:
- Wide Open Spaces 1 (chalk pastels – grayscale and color)
- Figures and Faces 2 (chalk pastels – color)
- Wide Open Spaces 2 (acrylic paints – color)
