Description
Basic Drawing Learning Targets
The purpose of the Basic Drawing Skills sessions is to familiarize the less experienced artist with the vocabulary, tools, and techniques of art. Each session will focus on just a few of the elements and principles of art. These classes are OPEN TO ALL AGES. You’re never to young or old to start learning about art.
Session Offerings
The cost of each session is $25 for a two-hour class. Register for all four sessions, and get 10% off!
Session 1 – Geometric Shape Building
Learn how to use geometric shapes and symmetry to build architectural designs and more! Markers and/or oil pastels.
Monday, June 4th, 2:00-4:00pm
Session 2 – Organic Shape Creations
Learn how to use freeform shapes and rhythm to create unified, natural scenes. Colored pencils and/or oil pastels.
Tuesday, June 5th, 2:00-4:00pm
Session 3 – Sketching and Shading
Learn how to use shading and contrast to draw lifelike, three-dimensional forms. Pencils and/or charcoal.
Wednesday, June 6th, 2:00-4:00pm
Session 4 – Wide Open Spaces
Learn how to use overlapping, size changes, and positioning to create the illusion of a 3D space. Colored pencils and/or oil pastels.
Thursday, June 7th, 2:00-4:00pm
Showcase from Last Year’s Basic Drawing Camp
Supplies
Newquii Studios will provide all of the necessary supplies. Each session will use different materials, to include pencils, charcoals, oil pastels, colored pencils, etc. As references, students in the Basic Drawing courses will use photographs, imagination, and the great outdoors. If you wish, you may also choose to bring your own supplies in addition to those provided.
Class Size
A maximum of 20 students will be allowed per session. If that threshold is met, we will consider offering the same classes again later in the summer.

Art Instructor
The Basic Drawing Skills sessions will be taught by local elementary school art teacher: Noel Newquist, known as Mr. New by students across Madison. As an art teacher for Madison City’s elementary schools, Mr. New has 10 years of experience working with every level of art student, from beginners to national award-winners.
